How it works
Our winter storage program runs from September 15th through April 30th. First, you call the Metro Scooter store in Northvale NJ at (201) 564 7003 to make your reservation. We will discuss your individual needs and take note of any other work you may want taken care of over the winter months. At this time we take a $100 deposit to reserve your space. We then pick up your scooter, prepare it for hibernation, re-commission it in spring and deliver it back to you in the spring. A list of pick-up and drop-off dates and locations will be publicized in my blog as soon as I have the information available.
What you get
Our program is designed to deliver your scooter back to you in spring in tip top shape, ready for the new riding season. To achieve this, our standard program provides the following:
Pick-up
We will pick up your scooter from your selected location at the appropriate date/time with our custom enclosed trailer, which is equipped with Condor wheel chocks and an e-track system that allows us to fully secure four scooters at a time. It should take no more than 10 minutes to complete this process for each customer. Most of this time is just paperwork. It’s really just like dropping a car off at the dealership. A rain date will be provided for every pick-up date. You will be able to give you up-to-the-minute information if there is poor weather from our web site blog.
De-commissioning
The work we do:
1) change the engine oil (and filter if so fitted)
2) change the transmission fluid (gear oil)
3) add antifreeze to liquid cooled scooters as needed
4) add fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank and run the engine to get it into the fuel system
5) drain the fuel tank and if not fuel injected, drain the fuel from the carburetor
6) remove the battery and attach it to our trickle charge matrix
7) clean off all loose dirt before storing the scooter in a clean, dry environment
8) look for safety issues such as worm brake pads or tires that can be rectified over winter
Re-commissioning
The work we do:
1) Re-install the charged battery
2) Refuel the scooter with fresh fuel
3) Start the engine and verify correct running. Adjust as required
4) Take a local test ride if needed.
5) Polish all paint and bright work with a UV resistant cleaner wax.
Drop-off
On the designated day/time we will bring your scooter back into NYC to your designated drop-off location in its ‘ready-to-go’ state. Again, rain dates will be given. Don’t forget to bring your riding gear and helmet!
Guarantee
We promise to deliver unprecedented value and service to all our customers. Our skilled staff has more experience in this business than we care to admit. We have Vespa trained mechanics and are authorized dealers for Vespa Piaggio, SYM, Lance, TGB and Sachs/Pierspeed.
Full Service Store
While we have your scooter this is the perfect time to take care of additional service needs. Are your brake pads about to hit the rivets? Maybe that rear tire is as bald as I am? Don’t waste time during the riding season taking care of these things. Just let us know at pick-up what additional work you need and we will take care of the rest. If you are not sure what you need, ask us to perform a check and we will contact you if there is service work needed.
What we do not do:
We will not perform additional service work on any scooter purchased from the internet.
We do not do storage for Harleys or the like.
Additional Services:
While your scooter is with us this is a perfect time to take care of any other maintenance needs or upgrades you wish to do. If a tire needs replacing or you want to install a chrome kit or top box, why not kill two birds with one stone by getting the work completed during the off season. If there is a delay in obtaining parts it will not interfere with your riding in the warmer weather. Since there is every chance you will be saving a considerable amount of money on your regular storage in the City, you could almost justify such upgrades as being free!
